The road to Maroon Bells is always a popular choice, but for an epic ride reminiscent of a Tour de France stage in the Alps, ascend Independence Pass east of town. (For experienced, in-shape road cyclists only).
The incongruently named Rio Grande Trail follows the Roaring Fork River (and not the Rio Grande River), offering a mellow grade, plenty of shade and beautiful views of the Roaring Fork.
