Sustainability

Whenever possible, we make it policy to lighten our ecological footprint and reduce our impact on the environment. From housekeeping practices and cleaning products to the organic coffee we serve at breakfast, every decision is carefully calculated to minimize our global footprint and preserve Snowmass’ natural environment.

The Building's Green Design

The Limelight Hotel Snowmass has been submitted to the USGBC for LEED certification and meets the Town of Snowmass Village standards of the International Green Building Code. The following is list of specific green design features we prioritized in its construction:
  • Overall building energy usage is 18% below energy code (IECC) minimum standards.
  • Energy efficient Low-E windows
  • High-performance building envelop with continuous exterior insulation.
  • Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) system, warming fresh air with building waste air.
  • Advanced utility metering for efficient occupant control of heating, cooling and electrical systems.
  • LED light fixtures and automatic "daylighting" controls in public spaces.
  • Guestroom "All Off" lighting controls and lighting occupancy sensors in bathrooms, office and storage rooms.
  • Low VOC paints, glues and sealants.
  • Solar-reflective roofing materials.
  • Electric vehicle charging stations in the parking garage.

Green Operations Within

Sustainability cannot only be limited to brick-and-mortar solutions; you need a commitment to operational solutions as well.

At the Limelight Hotel Snowmass, we operate the hotel with green initiatives in mind. For instance, we’ve eliminated single-use plastic water bottles from our rooms. Quite frankly, our mountain spring water tastes better pumped straight from the tap. For your convenience, we have reusable water bottles for sale at the front desk.

But that's just one small way we've promoted sustainability from within. We've also:
  • Implemented and encouraged a linen re-use policy in our guest rooms;
  • Refused the use of 1.5-oz shampoo and soap bottles from the beginning, instead opting for refillable dispensers in guest bathrooms using the high-end bath products our guests would expect;
  • Eliminated plastic straws and converted all to-go containers and disposable drinkware to compostable products only in the restaurant;
  • Utilized a local delivery company to source food products directly from regional farms;
  • Installed hand dryers in public area lounge restrooms to eliminate washing of hand towels of up to 250 pounds of laundry during peak days;
  • Replaced disposable paper towels in guest rooms with a reusable dish towel;
  • Offer a subsidized bus pass program for employees to encourage them to leave cars at home.

We Are In Good Hands

The Limelight Hotel is owned and operated by Aspen Skiing Company (ASC), which is internationally recognized for its environmental stewardship and values-based approach to business.

ASC has installed a utility scale solar array; funded a coal mine methane project; built six LEED-certified green buildings; donated more than $3.5 million over 20 years to environmental causes through an employee-run foundation (see below); worked closely with Protect Our Winters (POW) to engage snow sports enthusiasts in efforts to reduce the impacts of climate change on mountain resort communities; provided full-time, year-round employees 16-hours of paid volunteer time; and published numerous articles and a book on these and other projects.

The Environment Foundation

The Environment Foundation — a collaboration with the Aspen Community Foundation, the Aspen Skiing Company Family Fund, and Lavazza Coffee — is an employee-governed nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preserving the regional environment. Funded through a volunteer payroll deduction from any Aspen Skiing Company employee (including those at the Limelight Hotels), the foundation seeks to reduce the impacts of climate change, foster responsible stewardship of natural resources, protect mountain ecosystems, or preserve and create unique opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Roaring Fork Valley. Guests of the Limelight Hotel Snowmass support the foundation when they donate $1 to the foundation upon check-in.

Learn more about The Environment Foundation on the Aspen Snowmass website. A complete list of grants supported is also available.
