Sustainability in Ketchum

To protect the long-term sustainability of the Wood River Valley, we’ve designed our state-of-the-art LEED-Silver certified mountain lodging from the ground up to lighten our ecological footprint and reduce our impact on the environment. From housekeeping practices and cleaning products to the organic coffee and housemade granola we serve at breakfast, every decision is carefully calculated to preserve the Ketchum area’s natural environment.

We Take Energy Seriously
  • We use high efficiency condensing boilers that capture heat from the exhaust gases to heat the hotel’s snowmelt and water supply.
  • The hotel is highly insulated with R-42 walls, R-70 roof, and double pane, low-e windows that have whole-window u value of .45. These features keep the interior warm while using less energy to heat the building. 100% of our lighting is provided with high-efficiency LED lamps.
  • Many areas of the hotel have light switches that utilize timers and motion detectors to ensure they are not left on.
  • All rooms and public spaces have digital thermostats controlled by our building automation system. The system reduces heating levels when spaces are unoccupied.

Efficiency is in the Details

  • We capture 100% of stormwater onsite and process – that means we filter it and send it directly to the ground without entering the municipal storm system and adding pollutants to the Wood River.
  • The building features high recycled content materials throughout, including roof, carpeting and ceramic tiles as well as FSC certified reclaimed wood on the outside. Interior spaces contain no toxic formaldehyde or any volatile organic compounds.
  • The restaurant seeks to source 10-15% of ingredients locally and works to stock canned beverages in the kitchen rather than bottles due to the lack of glass recycling in the region.
  • Housekeeping utilizes environmentally safe cleaning supplies and places glasses in all bathrooms rather than plastic cups.
  • Bathroom amenities provided in bulk eliminating thousands of small plastic bottles each year.
  • Recycling bins are located in each room and throughout public spaces.
  • We only provide plastic straws on demand in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic that goes into our landfills.

Limelight Ketchum Community Fund

We believe a healthy community makes for happy employees and guests. For the Limelight Hotel Ketchum, this is achieved through the Limelight Ketchum Community Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation. The fund is financed by contributions from the Limelight Hotel Ketchum’s operations, by employees through an optional paycheck deduction, and by guests through a $1-per-night donation that can be opted out of at any time. It is governed by a board of Limelight Hotel Ketchum employees, which meets periodically to review grant applications and determine grant recipients. These can include specific areas of need, such as early childhood education, environment, youth development, and mental health.
