Sustainability in Aspen

To protect the long-term sustainability of the Roaring Fork Valley, we’ve designed our state-of-the-art mountain lodging with meaningful environmental consciousness. Whenever possible, we make it policy to lighten our ecological footprint and reduce our impact on the environment. From housekeeping practices and cleaning products to the organic coffee and homemade granola we serve at breakfast, every decision is carefully calculated to preserve Aspen’s natural environment. Below you will find just some of the many ways we strive to be as sustainable as possible.

We Take Energy Seriously

  • Heat in the parking garage is provided by two pumps that redirect the rejected heat produced by the water cooling system.
  • Our six hot-water boilers are coordinated — as opposed to operating independently — so that they can run more efficiently.
  • All inefficient halogen lighting has been replaced with compact fluorescents and LED lamps.
  • In each room, light switches that are not on the main switch utilize timers to ensure they are not left on. Exterior lights are on a photocell to reduce usage.
  • All rooms and public spaces have digital thermostats controlled by our building automation system.

Efficiency is in the Details

  • Our lobby fireplace is off in the summer and operates on a timer in the winter to reduce usage.
  • All soap, shampoo, lotion is dispensed by refillable pump rather than using traditional 1.5 oz bottles.
  • Guests choose if they would like their linens and towels changed daily.
  • All of our toilets and shower heads have limited water consumption.
  • Recycling bins are located in each room and throughout public spaces.
  • We use glasses rather than plastic cups in the bathrooms.
  • In the bar, wine corks are collected and sent to Re Cork where they become footbeds for Sole sandals.

The Environment Foundation

The Environment Foundation — a collaboration with the Aspen Community Foundation, the Aspen One Family Fund and Lavazza Coffee — is an employee-governed nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preserving the regional environment. Funded through a volunteer payroll deduction from any Aspen One employee (including those at the Limelight Hotels), the foundation seeks to reduce the impacts of climate change, foster responsible stewardship of natural resources, protect mountain ecosystems, or preserve and create unique opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Roaring Fork Valley. Guests of the Limelight Hotel Aspen support the foundation when they donate $1 to the foundation upon check-in.

Learn more about The Environment Foundation on the Aspen Snowmass website. A complete list of grants supported is also available.

Caring for Community Fund

The Caring for Community Fund is dedicated to serving the Roaring Fork Valley’s neediest individuals and families.Donations support child care centers, neighbors struggling with mental health and addiction, and those without a roof over their head or dollar in their pocket so they can get the support they need to get back on their feet. The Caring for Community Fund is funded by employees of Aspen One (which includes employees of Limelight Hotels) and is supported by a 2-for-1 matching commitment from the company. The fund is directed by an employee board. Long after an employee serves on the board, many will continue to play active roles in the organizations and issues they learned about during their service.

Bike-Friendly

All guests at the Limelight Hotel Aspen can enjoy complementary use of our cruiser and fat bikes — the perfect (and greenest) way to see downtown Aspen. We also support Team Limelight, a local cycling team that competes regionally. With all of that, it's no wonder we were honored by the League of American Bicyclists with their Bronze-Level Bicycle Friendly Business.
